The purpose of the proposed South Orange County Reliability Enhancement (SOCRE) project is to increase the reliability and operational flexibility of San Diego Gas and Electric’s (SDG&E) South Orange County 138-kilovolt (kV) system to reduce the risk of electrical outages. The existing 230-kV transmission network at SDG&E’s Talega Substation (located on Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton) provides power for the South Orange County service area. The SOCRE project will improve reliability by providing a second 230-kV power source to SDG&E’s South Orange County service area and upgrading components of the Talega Substation in MCB Camp Pendleton.
GIS Surveyor Inc.’s (GSi) core responsibilities to the SOCRE program is GIS centric, we developed and maintain the geospatial central repository for all SDG&E created and modified engineering drawings (AutoCAD) products that directly relate to the SOCRE scope. This includes converting Auto-CAD .DXF/.DWG files into a geodatabase (GDB). With regards to other third party data (contractor iterations of engineering and environmental restraints due to construction to environmental impact, planning, right-of-way, construction and quality control, quality assurance or other constraints), GSi manages, modifies and analyzes site locations and regularly calculates acreage, linear distances, road distance, slope, fill and other components of engineering data that Auto-CAD is unable to complete.
GSi has created and maintained an ESRI Arc GIS Online platform web-based application that displays all relevant data for select Program Managers and Contractors working on SOCRE to freely view and run reports, as well as query and filter GIS data to better engage their workflow and run data assessments within the program scope as it changes.
