After graduating at the top of his class in both the basic and advanced Marine Corps Survey schools at Fort Sill, Oklahoma, Paul refined these skills in service to our country during Operation Desert Storm and Desert Shield. During his military career, Paul learned the value of attention to detail and commitment while honing the ability to solve problems in less than ideal situations.

After his career in the Marine Corps, Paul worked at a local surveying & engineering firm and was fortunate to have several credible mentors willing to pass on their knowledge of the Southern California land tenure system. Paul continued to cultivate his knowledge of geomatics and after earning his license in Land Surveying from the State of California in 2002, opened his first survey company that same year. Paul’s passion for surveying along with his desire to maintain a solid reputation for dependability and competency were the driving forces leading him to create a company where these values are practiced daily. These forces, along with the core values of attention to detail, unsurpassed service to clients and commitment to quality deliverables were the catalysts for growth that ultimately led to working with Sempra Energy.

Being aware of the need to innovate to meet ever changing industry standards, in 2011, Paul was determined to expand his business by incorporating the complimentary technologies of Land Surveying with Geographic Information Systems (GIS) into one company. Aware that there were several companies performing both services under one roof but none who tied the history of the land, precise measurements of the earth and GIS mapping solutions together, Paul’s vision of a “one stop shop for all things geo-spatial” became reality when he and partner Matthew Van Eck founded GSi in April of 2012.

Since 2012, GSi has grown to over 40 employees with offices in San Diego and Orange County, California and Seattle, Washington and now services several of California’s Independently Operated Utilities (IOU’s). The past, present and future growth of GSi originates from the core values listed above along with the simple concepts of providing value and exceptional products to our clients, while giving opportunity to our employees. At GSi, we believe that proper adherence to these concepts will be followed by profit and growth of the company and our history has proven that to be true.

Along the way, Paul has remained true to his roots by maintaining his commitment to the service of our nation’s military veterans and others in need. Southern California is home to one of the largest populations of active duty and military veterans so, after a trip to Houston in 2013 to volunteer at a fund-raising barbeque for the Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) Foundation of America, Paul returned home and founded the PTSD Foundation Southern California Chapter, where he currently serves as the Operations Manager. Paul also volunteers with the Alzheimer’s Companions program and is active in his church. During an interview, Paul was quoted saying “We are continuously looking to make an impact in our community. We strive to hire veterans and conduct business with other veteran companies. It’s about giving back in more ways than one.” When Paul is not busy making waves in the geo-spatial community, you will find him cruising the Colorado River in his boat with his wife and six, yes six, children.
