Project Overview

The Electric Program Investment Charge (EPIC) is a California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) funded research and development program designed to bring benefits to electricity ratepayers in the Southern California region. GIS Surveyors provided subject matter and process development expertise for an applied research and development project that concerns the use, visualization and overall management of the plethora of field data that is collected daily by SDG&E.

We worked with key stakeholders to look for inefficiencies in their current processes, and with external vendors to come up with new and innovative technical solutions to address these issues. Such solutions have included proof of concepts to show how SDG&E could benefit from implementing a central data repository and utilizing machine learning for inspection purposes and automatic identification of assets.
